Spices Give Taste To Low Sodium Diet

Spices Give Taste To Low Sodium Diet

Many Americans are being urged to cut back on their sodium intake - one of the most important reasons is the high cost of high blood pressure.

This does not mean giving up excess sodium doesn't have to mean giving up good taste.  The test kitchen at the American Spice Trade Association has found that spices can do a lot to put enjoyment back into your mealtimes.

Spices themselves contain very little sodium that they can be used wherever salt has been reduced or cut.  One good idea is to keep a shaker of mixed spices at the table.

Here is a blend you may want to have a the table: 2 1/2 tsp. each of paprika, garlic powder, and powdered mustard; 5 tsp. of onion powder; 1/2 tsp. ground white pepper; and 1/4 tsp. celery salt according to the Spice Kitchen.
